Veterinary Assistant
Derek is a dedicated Veterinary Assistant with over 10 years of experience in the veterinary medical field. He earned his Veterinary Assistant Certification from Alvin Community College back in 2015 and later pursued advanced training through Penn Foster College’s Veterinary Technician program, where he completed clinical rotations in shelter medicine and worked with exotic animals.
In addition to his work at Haven, Derek recently earned his Sterile Processing diploma and is HSPA certified. He also works at UTMB in Galveston, TX.
Outside of work, Derek enjoys volunteering at the Houston Zoo, spending time outdoors, and has recently discovered a love for gardening. A proud cat dad, he shares his life with four beloved cats — Salem, Biscuit, Clementine, and Crystal — and often takes Salem along for camping trips or beach days.
